Hello, Autumn

Being with a child. Every. Single. Day.

Probably the most challenging experiences of my life. And at the same time, one filled with poetry, simplicity and love.

When I was a child myself, I was fascinated by the subtile changes in nature when summer turns to fall. I loved that melancholy and beauty in the nature. I was living in a small village, close to the forest at that time. As a grown-up, I lived mostly in cities. Some of them were amongst the biggest metropolis in this world. Beijing. Paris. I forgot about the beauty that comes with the seasons that blend into each other… Until now.

Now I have this chance again. Observing how summer leaves slowly slowly, while Autumn arrives. With my daughter, we do these long walks into the nature almost every day.

Through her eyes, I can feel the summer leaving...

... and autumn coming

To celebrate it and live it to the full, we bring treasures (leaves, chestnuts, acorns, hazelnuts, pine cons...) gathered up during our walks in the nature and put them into the "Autumn basket", next to the "Summer basket" (with shellfish and snails) on our Montessori-inspired activities shelves:

or use them for "study" when drawing:

We cook some delicious autumn recipes:

We prepare our garden for wintertime and pick up the death leaves:

In the kitchen, I have changed the pictures that I displayed on the wall in front of the snacks and drinks station. I change them at each season and I choose amongst the fruits and vegetables she enjoys most and also some exotic dishes that remind us of our time in Asia:
